IBB: THE PRIMACY OF LEADERSHIP by : Ben. Anthony Edejor

Ethical leadership as provided by goggle, is leadership directed by respect for ethical beliefs, values, dignity and rights of others. It is also related with the concept of trust, honesty consideration, charisma and fairness.

Adrift to the merry party of visitors at the uphill country home of General Ibrahim Babangida,  several years ago, best explains how our past leaders are masters of the people and not servants as one would expect. General Ibrahim Babangida to some Nigerians is one man they never want to see at the corridors of power, while others who attest to his generosity, see him as a political godfather.

If Nigerians could all be made to sleep on the June 12 impasse, IBB would easily have been the compromised choice for the 2007 Presidential elections, although many expressed their displeasure over his candidacy, characterized by dashed hopes and failed expectations. Others despite his flaws, saw him as a visionary leader whose philosophies were people oriented, embracing all with due regards to the principle of federal character and committed to addressing those areas that hitherto militated against the emergence of quality leadership in Nigeria.

Regrettably, efforts of past leaders to address those political imbalance of leadership have not only been disappointing, but tend to prove more difficult to comprehend.

DESCRIPTION OF IBB AS A LEADER

I have never had the privilege of meeting him in person, but my pen friends, who did, attest to his generosity, and enormous goodwill.

Perhaps my visit to his uphill country home several years ago, precisely the daughter’s wedding, best explains the open display of affection his visitors had for him as a respected leader. From what I witnessed during that memorable event, best explains why he has frontiers of good relationships of friends and associates that spread within and outside Nigeria. I see a detribalized Nigerian, who is very passionate about the unity of our great country  Nigeria.

MERRY CROWD OF VISITORS DURING HIS BIRTHDAYS:

Those gatherings were simply a subtle demonstration of solidarity and clear manifestation of his conviviality.
