Recently, the management of National Pension Commission PENCOM led by its Commissioner for finance Charles Sylvester Emukowhate, met with Governor Benedict Ayade of Cross River State in Calabar.
During the visit, the Governor said: “Cross River was mostly a peaceful state, adding that “making the state a business hub” was one of the priorities of his administration to attract investment to the state. He further said: “We are massively building on critical infrastructures for the people and state to maximize the economic benefits.
He also highlighted the imperative of marine services, solid minerals and the recent purchase of a 148 capacity airplane that will further improve the economic well-being of the state.
His Excellency informed the pension managers that since the inception of his administration, benefits have been fully paid to families of all those covered by the insurance scheme. He used the opportunity to reaffirm his administration’s support for the welfare of workers and pensioners in the state and also stressed the need for PENCOM to leverage on the N500billion funds in developing the state’s economy.
Speaking, Mr Charles Emukowhate pledged to collaborate with the state government to ensure that lives of pensioners are made comfortable after retiring from service.
Mr Emukowhate commended and appreciated the Governor for the onerous efforts at making the state safe and peaceful, he emphasized the preparedness of the commission (PENCOM) to collaborate with the state to ensure they benefit from their facilities and other sustainable pension contributions.
Meanwhile, PENCOM has developed an online enrolment application to assist retirees enrol, verify and compute their benefits. This was disclosed by the Commissioner for technical department of the commission Mr. Anyim Nyerere at the opening of a two day training for the Pension Desk Officers in Kano.
He said the application was developed for easy capture, and it will provide guidance accordingly to help retirees compute accurate retirement benefits. Mr. Anyim said that the application will be hosted on the commission’s website and will enable prospective retirees log on to register their details.
The aim of the training according to the Commissioner was to expose the Pension Desk officers to the newly developed online enrolment application procedures. The officers when trained would guide the retirees on how to complete and ensure accuracy in the information to be submitted online.
